The world-renowned Godolphin stable unveiled another promising star on August 5th as Silken Crown, a two-year-old filly sired by Dubawi, made a sensational debut at Newmarket Racecourse. Trained by Charlie Appleby, Silken Crown lived up to the expectations of her pedigree, dominating the 6-furlong fillies’ maiden with confidence and poise.
Jockey William Buick kept the filly relaxed through the early stages before urging her forward in the final two furlongs. Silken Crown responded with a burst of speed that left seasoned punters in awe. Crossing the line more than four lengths ahead of her closest rival, she earned immediate comparisons to some of Godolphin’s greats.
What’s unique about Silken Crown is her stride—a fluid, unforced action rarely seen in a horse so young. Appleby praised her temperament post-race, noting that she’s “professional in every sense, a filly with Group potential.”
Owned and bred by Godolphin, Silken Crown is out of the mare Sheba’s Garden, another Appleby-trained star, making her bloodline one to watch. Early indications suggest she may be aimed at the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes next month—an important stepping stone for juvenile fillies heading into the autumn season.
This latest debut continues a strong summer for the Godolphin team, who are keen to expand their presence in both UK and French juvenile circuits.
With Godolphin’s strategic focus on quality over quantity, the rise of Silken Crown adds a fresh layer of excitement to the global flat-racing scene.
