UAE Horse Racing Returns with 64 Meetings and Global Ambitions

The United Arab Emirates has officially entered another exciting chapter in its equestrian history as the 2026–2027 horse racing season gets underway, bringing together elite Thoroughbreds, Purebred Arabians, leading jockeys and internationally respected trainers.

With 64 race meetings scheduled across five major racecourses, the new season reinforces the UAE’s position as one of the world’s most influential destinations for competitive horse racing.

According to the Emirates Racing Authority’s official calendar, racing commenced at Abu Dhabi Turf Club on 22 October 2026, marking the beginning of a programme combining sporting excellence, Arabian heritage and international competition.

Five Racecourses, One Remarkable Season

The racing calendar features 17 meetings at Meydan, 16 at Abu Dhabi Turf Club, 14 at Al Ain, 11 at Jebel Ali and six at Sharjah.

Each venue contributes a distinctive character to the season, from Meydan’s international atmosphere to Al Ain’s celebrated Arabian racing traditions.

The season’s centrepiece will be the prestigious Dubai World Cup meeting on 27 March 2027, featuring a US$12 million headline race.

Another major highlight is the UAE President Cup, scheduled for 12 December 2026 at Abu Dhabi Turf Club, with prize money of AED 8 million. The contest remains an important celebration of Purebred Arabian racing.

Leading Jockeys Prepare for Competition

The new season also marks the return of some of racing’s most accomplished personalities.

Tadhg O’Shea, a 12-time UAE champion jockey, is preparing for his 25th season in the Emirates. Working alongside champion trainer Bhupat Seemar, O’Shea is expected to play an important role in another competitive campaign.

In an interview published by Dubai Racing Club, O’Shea expressed enthusiasm about returning to Meydan and reconnecting with established racing stars, including Tuz and Killer Collect.

The Dubai Racing Carnival is scheduled to begin on 6 November, offering another major platform for leading international horses and connections.

Arabian Horses Remain at the Heart of Racing

Beyond international Thoroughbred competition, Purebred Arabian racing continues to represent the UAE’s enduring connection with its equestrian heritage.

Recent trials have demonstrated growing participation. On 16 October, 88 Arabian and Thoroughbred horses competed in 13 trial races at Meydan, including 75 Purebred Arabians.

These preparatory events provide valuable opportunities for trainers to assess promising horses ahead of the competitive season.

A Season of International Significance

The UAE’s racing calendar represents more than a collection of sporting events. It brings together owners, breeders, trainers, racing enthusiasts and international visitors through a shared appreciation of horses.

As the season progresses towards the Dubai World Cup, attention will increasingly turn to emerging champions, international contenders and the performances that define the racing year.

With world-class facilities and a strong commitment to equestrian excellence, the UAE is once again preparing to showcase its racing ambitions to a global audience.
