History was made as the first ever Ladies World Cup Final was played at Palermo. The milestone tournament saw six nations compete for the title (Argentina, Brazil, United States, England, Ireland and Italy). Prior to the Final, England narrowly secured The Silver Cup with a 6-5½ win against Italy. The second match of the day was the main event between Argentina and the United States compete for the World Cup title, with Argentina overwhelming their opponents 6-2 to take the title. The awards presentation saw Azucena Uranga named Most Valuable Player, Emma Tomlinson was the Top Scorer with 11 goals, Catalina Lavinia was the Best New Player, Audry Persano received the Fair Play Award and Frances Townend received the Sportsmanship Award.
