Trimming your horse’s hooves is an important part of caring for your animal, but it can be difficult to know if you’re doing it correctly. Many people are intimidated by the prospect of trimming their own horse’s hooves, and even if you feel confident in your abilities, there are a few things you should keep in mind when doing so:
1) If you are not entirely comfortable around your horse or if you aren’t sure how to trim your horse’s hooves, take it to a professional farrier instead of trimming the hooves yourself, because you could injure or potentially even lame your horse.
2) You should always wear gloves while trimming hooves, as well as shoes with good traction on them.
3) Always use sharp tools when trimming hooves—never dull ones! Dull tools can cause injuries and pain to your horse’s sensitive feet.
