Godolphin Makes History Again

Dubai’s racing powerhouse celebrates its 18th British Champion Owner title after another spectacular season on the international stage.
Godolphin has once again demonstrated why its royal blue silks are among the most recognised symbols in international horse racing, capturing the British Champion Owner title for an extraordinary 18th time.
The Dubai-based racing operation secured the honour during British Champions Day at Ascot, adding another remarkable achievement to a legacy built on ambition, exceptional Thoroughbreds and decades of international success.

Founded through the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Godolphin has developed into one of the world’s most influential racing organisations, competing at the highest level across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Asia and North America.
This year’s championship highlighted not only the strength of its established champions but also the depth of talent supporting the operation.
A Spectacular Day at Ascot
The championship celebrations coincided with a memorable afternoon of racing.
Ombudsman delivered an outstanding performance in the Group 1 Champion Stakes, defeating leading international rival Calandagan under William Buick.
Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the talented horse continued an exceptional campaign that had already included victory in the Dubai Turf and further Group 1 success at Royal Ascot.
Meanwhile, Talk Of New York, trained by Charlie Appleby, captured the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, adding another major victory for Godolphin.
Buick also partnered Fifth Column to victory in the Balmoral Handicap, completing an impressive three-win afternoon.
These performances reinforced Godolphin’s reputation for producing horses capable of delivering on racing’s biggest occasions.
The Champions Behind the Success
Godolphin’s championship season was far from dependent on one remarkable race meeting.
Notable Speech contributed valuable top-level victories, winning the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and the City of York Stakes during York’s Ebor Festival.
Another memorable achievement came from Dubai Future, who captured the Group 3 Henry II Stakes at Sandown at the age of ten, becoming the oldest winner to carry Godolphin’s royal blue colours.
Rebel’s Romance, one of the organisation’s most decorated performers, also provided an emotional chapter when he concluded his racing career with victory at Newmarket’s July Festival.
Together, these results demonstrated the remarkable versatility and longevity of Godolphin’s racing programme.
Sheikh Mohammed’s Enduring Vision
Beyond the trophies and championship records lies a much larger achievement.
Godolphin has helped establish Dubai as an internationally respected centre for Thoroughbred racing, breeding and equine excellence.
Its success reflects a long-term investment in bloodstock, veterinary expertise, training infrastructure and talent development.
That same international ambition can be seen across the UAE’s expanding equestrian calendar, highlighted in Al Badia’s coverage of the 2026–2027 UAE Equestrian Season.
Godolphin’s British championship also demonstrates how deeply interconnected international racing has become.
Horses developed through Dubai’s racing ecosystem can go on to compete successfully against the strongest performers in Europe, while international training operations contribute to the organisation’s global achievements.
The People Behind the Royal Blue
Although champion horses and celebrated jockeys attract much of the attention, Godolphin’s continued success depends on an extensive network of professionals.
Trainers, stable staff, veterinarians, exercise riders and breeding specialists contribute to every victory.
Their dedication is essential to preparing horses for competition and maintaining the standards required at the highest levels of the sport.
Al Badia explored this important contribution in The Hidden Heroes of Equestrian Sport.
As the 2026 international racing calendar continues, Godolphin’s latest title provides another reminder of the organisation’s extraordinary consistency.
Eighteen British Champion Owner titles represent more than individual victories. They reflect a racing philosophy that combines ambition, patience, exceptional horsemanship and a commitment to excellence.
For Dubai and the wider UAE equestrian community, Godolphin’s continuing success remains a powerful example of what long-term vision can achieve on the global sporting stage.
