A FINAL LAP OF HONOUR FOR RAHOTEP DE TOSCANE AT THE FOOT OF THE EIFFEL TOWER

Retired since April, Rahotep de Toscane, team gold medallist at Rio in 2016 ridden by Philippe Rozier, will be honoured, during the Longines Global Champions Tour – Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping. The occasion to say farewell to a champion and pay tribute to this extraordinary grey stallion. His owner Christian Baillet, his rider Philippe Rozier and his groom Maud Ligouzat tell us about their Rahotep.

Their are laps of honour that leave their mark. The one that Rahotep de Toscane will do following the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix will undoubtedly be one of them, one of those that you don’t forget, one of those that mixes emotions that are as diverse as they are intense. At 16 years of age, the Selle-Français, gold medallist at Rio, will come and receive a final homage at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. It’s difficult to imagine a better setting to salute the exceptional career of this son of the famous Quidam de Revel and Fanny du Murier, born the 6th of April 2005 in the Marne, at the home of Michel Aubertin.

Love stories don’t always start at first sight. Indeed that of Rahotep and Philippe Rozier was far from that.“We went to Belgium with Mr Baillet, remembers the rider. In the beginning we were disappointed. We were going to leave but nevertheless decided to put the height up a bit. And there, it was a different horse. We couldn’t have imagined his future destiny. We chose to wait, to give him time. Mr Baillet is a true horseman and he understood that. It wasn’t until he was a 9 year-old that he started to switch on the turbo.”

Each day, at his side, Rahotep benefited from the care and attention of his groom Maud Ligouzat. “I arrived at Philippe’s yard the 28th of August 2021, confides Maud. I remember it really well. There was a little grey in the stable on the left. It was Rahotep. We met each other, obviously. He’s really seeks contact and is quite playful. Sometimes, competing, he would make Philippe’s life a misery. In the warm-up, he did what he wanted and when he didn’t want, well he stopped. You just had to let him be

Philippe Rozier confirms his partners character. “All that interested him was galloping in the forest and eating trees, he smiles. Exercises in the school weren’t his thing. I would sometimes call it a day after only 5 minutes. He was a kind of lazy king.”
