Dornoch won the 156th edition of the Belmont Stakes, Class I, 2,000 meters, the third American Triple Crown race, which was held at Saratoga Racecourse, with a prize money value of $2 million.
The stallion “Good Magic,” led by jockey Luis Saez and supervised by coach Danny Gargan, was able to snatch the title, recording a time of 2:01.64 minutes, half a length behind “Mind Frame,” led by jockey Irad Ortiz and supervised by coach Todd Pletcher. “Sierra Leone” came in third place, led by jockey Flavien Pratt and supervised by coach Chad Brown.
The race was held with the participation of 10 three-year-old horses, and Dornoch advanced quickly, running behind the leader, Seas the Grey, who did not succeed in maintaining his lead after the last turn, as Dornoch advanced and snatched the lead, rushing strongly near the inside fence, and Mindframe tried to catch up. The winner, but lost by half a length.
The victory is the first in the first category in Dornoch’s career, which began last year when he was two years old. His most notable victory came last December when he defeated Sierra Leone by a nose in the Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct Racecourse, then Dornoch opened the current year strongly.
